Join Me in Praying for Kern County

Humble_Prayer

If you live in Kern County, please join us for this call to prayer! Read this letter from fellow pastors around Kern County, California:

Dear Friends,

Unprecedented drought threatens our farms, oil production, families, and cities in the Central Valley. In response, Kern Leadership Alliance PRAY and local church leaders call on all followers of Jesus to unite in a community-wide prayer gathering at Bakersfield High School’s Harvey Auditorium on Sunday, February 23 at 6:00 P.M. We will gather for prayer and fellowship and to seek divine intervention in the water crisis plaguing our state.

We invite you and your congregation to join in co-sponsoring this gathering, “Pray for Rain.” Please email robert@kernleadershipalliance.org to be listed as a sponsoring pastor of “Pray for Rain” or to seek further information. Additionally, we invite sponsoring pastors to participate in a press conference on Monday, February 17 at 12:00 P.M., on the steps of Harvey Auditorium (1316 G Street), where the event will be announced to local media.

We all have a burden for our county and desire to see it transformed with the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. One of the greatest assets we have is the power of united prayer. When the church is united in prayer, great things happen for our community. Kern Leadership Alliance PRAY is a working group of Kern Leadership Alliance that is seeking to implement a long-term strategy to unite churches in ongoing prayer while respecting the individuality of each local church and its stream of tradition. We ask you to consider joining us in beginning this prayer movement.

“Pray for Rain” on February 23rd will be followed by a 40-day united prayer focus in spring 2014, beginning on May 1 (National Day of Prayer) and culminating on June 8 (Global Day of Prayer). During this period, our desire is for churches to adopt one day to pray for our city. The church adopting that day would be responsible for promoting a day of prayer for their church and our city, in a manner that best fits their congregation. Kern Leadership Alliance PRAY will provide a prayer guide.

As a longer-term united community effort, our hope is to find churches that adopt a day once a month to continue to pray for their church and city. Then on a quarterly basis, we would have a meeting of senior pastors for the purpose of praying for our city.
We recognize your leadership and congregation’s importance to our city and would love to have your participation in this prayer movement as we get it kicked off. If you are interested, we would like to invite you and/or your prayer coordinator to attend the Kern Leadership Alliance Breakfast on Thursday, March 13 at 7:00 A.M. at the Petroleum Club as our guest. Just email us to RSVP. Whether or not you can attend, let us know of your interest and what day between May 1 and June 8 you would like to adopt.

We hope you are as excited as we are about this opportunity and what this could do for our churches and city as we unite together in prayer. May God continue to richly bless you and your congregation!
