Joy to the World
Joy is in the air during the holidays. Children laughing, families gathering, church services full of song and praise. “Joy to the World” is one of the most popular and celebratory Christmas carols we sing.
“Joy to the World,” a classic carol was written by Isaac Watts and originally titled, “The Messiah’s Coming Kingdom.” It first appeared in 1719, adapted by Lowell Mason and some of the phrases used in Handel’s Messiah in 1742.
For centuries, hearts had yearned for God to reveal Himself personally.
which reminds us to “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all the earth.” “Joy to the World” is an announcement of the savior’s birth – bringing joy to all the earth. When God’s promise of a Savior was fulfilled in the birth of His son, joy to the world lifts up the Babe of Bethlehem. Be filled with rejoicing as we receive God’s Son, His gift to us.
