New Year New You!

Happy New Year! Resolutions, goals, fresh starts and new beginnings are a few of the things that this time of year is about. Many of us are implementing healthy habits for healthy living. If you are in this category, I have a few inexpensive and simple ideas to help your physical body feel better. If you are tired of the diet yo-yo or the overstuffed belly blahs, you will find these easy additions to your routine might offer much needed relief.  Some us have asked the question, since

Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Are you tired of the diet roller coaster? Me too. So let’s get back to the place we can say, “It is well with not only my soul, but with my body and mind, too.”

Three Healthy & Wise Things You Can Do Today:

1) Drink 8 ounces of lemon water every day first thing in the morning.

Squeeze half a fresh lemon into a mug and use hot water warmed in a tea kettle. Allow this to steep with lemon for five minutes. Drink slowly. This aids in digestion and detoxification.

2) Drink 8 8-ounce glasses of water—stay hydrated.

Water composes 75% of your brain. It helps carry nutrients and oxygen to your cells and converts your food to energy. Water removes waste and helps control your appetite.

3) Walk for 30 minutes.

Walking for 30 minutes every day alleviates depression and fatigue. Walking increases attention and decision-making, lowers the risk of heart disease, improves blood pressure by five points, cuts the risk of Altzheimer’s in half, keeps weight in check while working arms and shoulders, and strengthens legs, quads, hips, and hamstrings.

Leonard Sweet in his book Soulsalsa reminds us, “Just as the health industry is moving from treating disease to creating health, so the church must redesign itself as a place that creates wellness rather than attends the sick. And wellness incorporates body, mind and spirit.” So today, let’s implement these three simple ways to begin our journey to better health together. And I will be praying for you.

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us life. We commit our health living choices to you. Thank you for entrusting us with these bodies to care for. Help us to be good stewards of them. Empower us to be self-controlled and give us discipline in our food and activity choices today. We want to serve you more effectively. In Jesus’ name, amen.
