Unqualified and Under-gifted

If you are presented with new opportunities, do you feel inadequate or weak? Are you afraid of failure? Do you feel unqualified? Under-gifted? Out of your comfort zone? I can relate. Several years ago, I found out about a bunch of high school kids that were close to getting kicked out of school for good. The academic dean asked me for help. I didn’t feel I had the ability to put together such a thing; I thought I was far from qualified. “God, not me” I argued, “I have a new job, I am busy, I am a cancer survivor, I have limited energy and time.” I didn’t know how to create a truant program at a local public high school.

I remembered what God brought me out of, once a rebellious and promiscuous teenager, chain-smoker, alcoholic, drug addict and drug dealer who cut class all but 5 days my junior year of high school. God reminded me – I knew what these kids were going through.

At age 17, I went to work at a Christian camp in Lake Tahoe and was surrounded by believers who loved me in spite of my weird hair, anger issues and bad habits. I remembered how God showed me His love at a Christian camp — I was a mess.

God allowed me to experience how His love covered a multitude of sins (I Peter 4:8). God helped me put together a presentation including my story, with the scripture from 1 Peter 4:8. God gave me the insight and wisdom I needed to share His love with those in need. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I Cor. 12:9

I asked for God’s strength to provide for my weakness and He came through. God helped me put together a program which I called “Positive Options.” In the span of four years, I shared my story with hundreds of at-risk students. I shared how the love of Jesus could cover their sins. I look forward to the day when I find out who made the positive choice to join the family of God. I thank God for His wisdom, presence and answers for my inabilities and inadequacies. He is more than able. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20, 31

Let’s pray. Father thank You that wherever You guide, You provide. Thank You for giving us wisdom and grace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
