God Provides

Kenya Team 2013 at GMCH

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your love and prayers for us. I am reminded many times throughout my day God is my provider. He provided for me during the planning of our wedding, protected me from harm in the car accident, and sustains me every day as I serve Him. I appreciate your prayers for me and our families as we begin our lives together.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.” Isaiah 40:28

As I plan our wedding, I remain concerned and prayerful for my co-workers in Africa. Please pray for my friend Judith Mutange, who lives in Kitale, Kenya. Judith is a graduate of Africa Theological Seminary, and after her studies were completed she noticed a problem in her community. Street children were in abundance; she wondered if anyone was doing anything about it.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” Isaiah 40:29-31a

Judith decided she could make a difference. Judith founded Great Mercy Children’s Home, which provides housing, meals, education, and spiritual direction for nearly 250 children and 24 adults. Judith sent me this letter last week (below). You will find her response, as our great God Jehovah-Jireh came through in provision for the orphanages’ needs. Judith showed us how to wait on the Lord. Won’t you praise Him with us?

“They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 b

Here’s the April 1, 2014, note from Judith:

Hello, Sheryl,

Am so grateful for getting in touch. Am more calm and happy with the miraculous healing of my sister. I have lived with her together with Joy and Charity, her two daughters, since 2004 when her marriage broke and she discovered she was HIV positive. I have also lived with Mary, a widow with her three daughters and a grandson. We have served Great Mercy selflessly, and every time I see people visit I remember the three of us who have always been so needy and God has helped us to stand. Am the only one who had more education and lived with my husband.

The ICM team visited us at the time when the times have really changed. We must be getting tired, and the times are not easy. Many of our supporters are going through hard times, and we have to lean more on our faith on God more than ever.

I take care of nearly 250 children and 24 adults every day for breakfast and lunch and 160 for supper.

Home school is very expensive, ranging from educational material, food, and infrastructure. Growth has challenges, which is why we have a boys and girls home. I have confidence that some future is being shaped for our children, however painful it has been. God knows everything, which is why he has kept his work alive through feeble women.

May God bless you all for praying with us.

The meal i served children today was the balance from discharging my sister from hospital. My brother sent to me KSH 5500 ($70.00), and the bill was KSH 2180 ($28.00).We are now living one day at a time, but we will not give up. God is aware.

Thank you.

God provided, Sheryl. Saw God alive. He provided food for eight days. . . .

Dear Friends, Judith is allowing God to write The New Story of Africa. If you would like to get involved by praying or sending your financial support, go to the ICM website and click on the “Help Us Tell the Story” link for more info. Right now, won’t you take just a moment to pray with me for Judith and the many others who by faith rely on Jehovah-Jireh to meet their every need?

Father, thank you for providing for Judith exactly what she needed to feed the children and adults at Great Mercy Children’s Home. You are Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord Our Provider. Thank you and praise you in our time of need. You have already done it, Lord, and we bless you. Thank you, Lord, for Judith and the many others like her who serve you and love you and live by faith. We pray you would increase our faith as you have increased theirs. Lord, we are inspired by them. We ask you to strengthen them in their time of need. In Jesus’ name, we commit them to you, amen.

“Do not pray for easy lives, pray to be stronger people. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then to doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be a miracle. Every day you shall wonder at the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God.” —Phillips Brooks
