God Still Speaks

Have you heard God speak lately? All relationships need face-to-face communication, especially our  relationship with God. In today’s world, we often settle for less-than-optimum messages because we rely on email, faxes, texts, or FaceTime instead of setting up time to meet in person. That’s why our time alone with God is the most important meeting of our day.

John 10:10 says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, they follow me.” We must not settle for any substitutes such as reading a book about God or listening to a Bible teacher preach about God. We must let God have one-on-one, face-to-face time with us like Adam and Eve when they were tending the Garden of Eden. God longs to hear from us; he wants to speak to us. Through prayer and listening to God through His word, we can partake in a loving, thriving relationship with the living God. God interacts with those who seek after him; it’s intimate and intentional and might even interrupt you.

Remember Mary the mother of Jesus was greeted as one who “highly favored” by God. God whispered to the prophet Samuel as a young boy; he wrestled with Jacob and called David a man after his own heart. Thousands of years later, God still speaks. He longs to hear from us. We can hear from Him when we sit at His feet and seek Him. Remember the conversation Jesus had with the two sisters, Mary and Martha, in Luke 10:41. Jesus said, “’Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her.'”
