Transformed Through Truth

Happy New Year!

Transformation is a subject that has intrigued me for more than twenty-five years. Maybe it’s because I am a work-in-progress. I remember when I was seventeen, already an alcoholic and drug addict, working at a summer camp in Lake Tahoe, CA. “Love covers a multitude of sins,”(1 Peter 4:8) the camp staff said when I threw fits over doing my chores or smoking cigarettes and dope. “Love covers a multitude of sins.” The words rang in my ears; I couldn’t get the five-word phrase off my mind. Though raised in church, I had never been around Christians like these. They didn’t tell me to change anything about my appearance, attitudes, or addictions. These believers showed me what love looks like.

As a youngster in Sunday school, I’d learned Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” I began to believe God’s love could cover my drug and alcohol addictions, my lying and stealing, my promiscuity, and even my drug dealing. I didn’t have to clean up my act before coming to God; He loved me passionately just the way I was. After two weeks of experiencing how “love covers a multitude of sins,” I embraced it. Submitting to the overwhelming love of God, I allowed His abundant love to cover my multitude of sins. He transformed my life through the love of His people.

I am enthralled by the countless methods God uses to get peoples’ attention and amazed by the scores of opportunities God extends to those who desire genuine life-change. One thing is for certain: God loves us too much to leave us the way He found us. The concept of being “Transformed Through Truth” is a great exchange.Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This is easier said than done. It’s only by the practice of application of the living and active word of God and inviting the Holy Spirit to have his way to renovate us. Sounds exciting, huh? But it also can be a little scary to let go of what we have always known to be normal and how we’ve grown accustomed to reacting.

Sometimes it feels like a roller coaster ride, as we “white knuckle” the ups and downs of our unpredictable lives. It is an adventurous process to trust God enough to let go of our own emotional, relational, and physical brokenness. Imagine the independence we’ll experience when we trade our bondage for spiritual breakthrough. It’s only possible to move from captivity to freedom when we choose to believe God and take Him at His Word. As we dedicate ourselves to find out what God thinks, God helps us untangle the knots of deception so we can intentionally walk in our identity in Christ. The result will be transformation into the best version of ourselves we can be. And this complete makeover is what gives God glory.

Transformed Through Truth, Inc. is our new non-profit. It was founded with the desire to teach, train, and take individuals and groups how to apply God’s word to their lives, families, workplaces, ministries, and leadership. Growth and change are possible and probable by the individuals’ choice to believe and practice applying biblical principles under their own full dependence on the Holy Spirit. Our Transformed Through Truth team will be your guide, your cheerleader, your prayer partner, your encourager as we journey together. Through facing and accepting the truth found in God’s word, the individuals’ hurts, habits, and hang-ups more than likely will experience transformation into hope and possibly promote mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical healing.

“Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”John 8:32

So glad we are on this journey together. May I pray for you?

Heavenly Father, thank you for your will for each one who has heard your truth. May the truth of your love be enough for them to believe you have the best life they could ever imagine waiting in their future. May this year be a year of grace, favor, and limitless blessings. All for your glory, great God. In Jesus’ name, amen.
