What Shall I Give Him?

You know how it goes. Ooops, you forgot to buy a gift someone on your list. What shall I give him? Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what people want or need.

We celebrate the birthday of God’s Son, Jesus by planning, buying and giving gifts to those we love. It’s a tradition that invites activity, tasks, to-do lists, and yes even debt and guilt. We decorate, bake, host gatherings, write cards, shop and wrap gifts.

John 3:16tells us, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, Jesus, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”  So God gave His son, Jesus, to the world as a gift. God gave us His son, Jesus to us, as the most wonderful gift of love we could receive.  We celebrate Christmas with traditions, including gift giving.

What about you? What would King Jesus would want from you this Christmas?

This poem “What can I give Him?,” by Christina Rosetti, sums it up

“What can I give Him, poor as I am?

If I were a shepherd, I would give Him a lamb.

If I were a wise man, I would do my part-

Yet, what can I give Him, give Him my heart.”

If you know Jesus as your savior, you have already given Him your heart.  But would you be challenged this year, to offer Your Lord a tribute?  Is He asking you to give Him a renewed commitment? What is He asking You to sacrificially give to Him as a gift this Christmas?

Let’s pray, “Father, we submit to you and renew our commitment to you. Thank you for sending your Son to us as a gift for us to receive. We surrender our all to you as our gift to you this Christmas. In Jesus’ Name, Amen’
