Are you immobilized by a situation that seems too big? When David faced the Philistine giant Goliath, he said, “You come to me with a sword, a spear and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted” (I Samuel 17:45).
David’s defender was “the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel.” Talk about name-dropping! Remember the commercial “When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen”? When David spoke the name of the Lord of hosts, Jehovah Sabaoth, it got everyone’s attention.
David faced an “extreme encounter of the giant kind.” The protocol Presence, Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of hosts, opened the way before him. Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of hosts, rules as the chief commanding officer of the armies of heaven. In the same way, Jehovah-Sabaoth’s authority and supremacy is more than enough for each of us. Jehovah Sabaoth avails his limitless power and boundless resources to us whenever we call on His name.
Old Testament believers found Jehovah Sabaoth’s clout reliable; he delivered them when they asked. From Amos 4:14, “He who forms the mountains, creates the wind and reveals his thoughts to man, he who turns dawn to darkness and treads the high places of the earth-the Lord God Almighty is his name.” Today Jesus encourages us to take courage in the midst of tribulation, for He has overcome the world. Jesus is the overcomer and will give us strength in our difficulties. Romans 8:37 says, “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.” This is Jehovah-Sabaoth, who delivers us from failure and defeat. Zechariah 4:6 says, “Not by might nor by power but by my spirit says the Lord of Hosts.”
Facing a giant today? Do a little name-dropping. Let Jehovah-Sabaoth, the Lord of hosts, the commander of the armies of heaven, defend you and your family. He will help you defeat your enemy. Let’s pray:
Jehovah-Sabaoth, you alone are in charge of everything and the armies of heaven are at your command. Send me help. You are able to deliver me. Nothing I face today is greater than you. I can say because you are Jehovah-Sabaoth, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). O Jehovah-Sabaoth, you give marching orders to the armies of heaven,. Once again, I chose to surrender my life to your command. Thank you that I can be strong in the Lord and in the strength of Your might (Ephesians 6:10). In Jesus’ name, amen.
