Make the Most of Your Time

Wouldn’t it be great if we could stock up the hours others have wasted or don’t want? Did you know that most people waste at least two hours every single day?  Unfortunately, no one can loan us any of their spare time. Most of have an inkling that we actually do have time for the things we’ve complained there was no time for. We have a hunch that if we could manage ourselves better, we might be more productive with the use of our time and finish our projects in a timely fashion.

The apostle Paul cautioned the church at Ephesus to ‘redeem the time’, or “buy up opportunities” – time is opportunity. He reminded them in Ephesians 5:15,16: “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time for the days are evil.”

Saying you didn’t have enough time is probably admitting you didn’t manage the time you had. Time is all you have to work with. However, when you’re out of time, all your other skills are of no value. You simply have to control time to get good results. The familiar term, time management is actually a misnomer, because no one can manage time. What you really manage is yourself in order to accomplish your goals in the time available.

We exchange time for certain occupations and activities, important or otherwise, this shows the importance of a planned life. Maybe some of us don’t know how to make the best use of the opportunity time offers us. Time is a God-given stewardship for which we must render account and our use of it will determine the value of our contribution to our day and generation. The difference between one individual and another shows us how he uses his time. If you are looking for shortcuts to better time management, read and apply this great article about how to ‘run the day instead of letting the day run you.’

I hope you have a few minutes to read it and also take a few notes. You will notice #1 says ‘meditate,’ for you and I, this means ‘pray.’ And that is the only way to put first things first. Want to accomplish more? Want to be successful? Put God in charge of your day. What are you waiting for?

Let me pray for you.

Dear Heavenly Father, today, I commit to allow you to manage my time. Help me to say ‘no’ to interruptions, pray without ceasing, keep my core beliefs and character traits as a motivator. Lord help me stay with my schedule and allow you to give me the direction needed. In Jesus’ power I pray, Amen.
