Is True Love Possible?

Oceanside Praise

I am a hopeless romantic! You know what I mean—I love chick flicks, sunsets, and being held close in a tight hug. What about you? Have you longed for a love that would hold you close throughout life?

At age 5, I was awarded the book Sleeping Beauty for perfect attendance in kindergarten. That summer I escaped for hours at a time into Princess Aurora’s fairytale life. I imagined my hair long and blonde like hers, my life adventuresome—rescued by a handsome, young prince whose kiss of true love would break the spell of ordinary life. Years later, I felt like I didn’t fit in anywhere, and as a teenager, I looked for love in all the wrong places. After years of living for myself, as a drug addict and alcoholic, I found God’s hand was outstretched to me and His love was waiting for me. First Peter 4:8 showed me I didn’t have to clean up my act. It says, “Love covers over a multitude of sins.” God’s love, through the shed blood of Jesus, was enough to cover over my sins with His grace and mercy.

God loves us. He draws us to Himself with a love that never fails, always hopes, and wants the best for us. He asked his son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place. Jesus was the acceptable sacrifice for our sins. First John 4:9-10 (NIV) say, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” God wants to hold you close in a grace-filled, guilt-free embrace as you grasp His hand and walk together with Him through life. Won’t you take His hand?

Dear Lord, I choose to take your hand. Thank you for offering your son Jesus Christ to take my place as a sacrifice for my sins. Forgive me for refusing your help. I accept your invitation to walk with you in a new life with you, my true love, Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
